Vidushini Prasad
Passionate about Madhubani Art.
Vidushini Prasad is a prominent Madhubani (Mithila) artist from Bihar, the northern Indian state where this renowned folk art originated. Though raised in a family of film distributors surrounded by Bollywood movies, Vidushini’s educational path took her from schooling in Kolkata to completing graduate and postgraduate degrees in Chemistry in Patna, Bihar’s capital city.
Vidushini had the honor of being invited to speak at a TEDx event hosted by Amity University in Delhi (February 2024). She spoke on intricate chapters of her artistic journey, drawing poetic parallels with the enchanting phases of the moon.
Based in Bengaluru, Vidushini explores her creativity across diverse mediums like handmade paper, canvas, silk and fabrics. She also imparts her mastery through conducting online and offline Madhubani painting masterclasses and workshops for individuals, groups and corporates.
Vidushini’s association with this iconic Indian art blossomed around 2004, when the birth of her first child reignited her childhood passion for painting. She found herself naturally in tune with the Madhubani traditions flowing in her Bihar roots. Her initial works decorating her home so impressed family and friends that they encouraged her to pursue this art.
Over time, Vidushini’s self-taught Madhubani artworks have been widely exhibited across India at  prestigious venues like Laguna Art Gallery (California), David Hall Gallery (Kochi,, Genesis and Renaissance art galleries (Bangalore), Bhau Lash Museum, and Prince of Wales Museum (Mumba). She has also displayed at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in Bangalore
Her paintings have also adorned spaces within tech giants like  JPMorgan, ANZ, Epicore. Vidushini takes immense pride in being empaneled by the government’s Central Cottage Emporium , Government of India as a Madhubani artist.
Amplifying her passion, Vidushini is associated with the Bangalore-based charitable trust A Hundred Hands that revitalizes traditional Indian handicrafts. She actively promotes Madhubani art through popular online channels like her blog, Instagram (More than 13.8K followers), Facebook Page (more than 4.5K followers ) and Facebook group (35.2 K followers). Her art is also retailed globally via platforms like Novica.com, started in partnership with National Geographic.
Vidushini has authored a book capturing the stories of leading Madhubani folk artists, commissioned by the government’s MSME ministry. Her paintings have been featured on book covers and as emblematic art for cultural events like the Lok Sangeet Sammelan, India Habitat Center.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when rural artisans faced unprecedented challenges, Vidushini Prasad, partnership with A Hundred Hands, Â stepped up to make a difference. Recognizing the importance of community support, she extended a helping hand to these artisans, she creatively engaged with artisans nationwide on Instagram Live sessions spotlighting their crafts.
In her journey from a chemistry scholar to a celebrated Madhubani torchbearer, Vidushini’s artistic evolution has preserved and popularized this centuries-old Indian folk art tradition through her creativity, writings and promotional zeal.
