Vidushini Showcases Contemporary Madhubani Art at Boishakhi Exhibition in Kolkata

Boishakhi Handicraft Exhibition Thumb

Madhubani by Vidushini participated in the Boishakhi Handloom & Handicraft Exhibition organised by the Crafts Council of West Bengal at the Birla Academy of Art & Culture on February 27 and 28. This marked Vidushini’s first exhibition in Kolkata and West Bengal, making it an important milestone in her journey as a contemporary Madhubani artist.

The two-day exhibition brought together leading artisans and craft practitioners from across India, celebrating the richness of India’s handloom and handicraft traditions. At the event, Vidushini presented a curated collection of contemporary Madhubani paintings and wearable art, including hand-painted sarees, dupattas, and stoles created on handwoven fabrics.

Her work, known for combining traditional Madhubani motifs with contemporary design aesthetics, attracted strong interest from visitors, collectors, and craft enthusiasts. The exhibition saw a vibrant and diverse audience, including art lovers, craft patrons, followers of Vidushini’s work, and several international buyers exploring authentic Indian handcrafted art. Her genuine curiosity and appreciation for the art form made the interaction particularly memorable.

A special highlight of the exhibition was the visit by renowned actress Moon Moon Sen, who spent considerable time at the Madhubani by Vidushini stall. She engaged in a thoughtful conversation with the artist about the symbolism of Madhubani motifs, the storytelling traditions of the Mithila region, and the evolution of contemporary Madhubani art.

The exhibition was appreciated for its excellent organisation and curation, providing a meaningful platform for artists and artisans to connect with audiences who value handmade crafts and traditional Indian art.

For Vidushini, the warm response in Kolkata marked the beginning of a deeper engagement with the city’s vibrant art and craft community. Participation in the Boishakhi exhibition reinforces Madhubani by Vidushini’s mission to promote authentic Madhubani art from Bihar while presenting it in contemporary formats such as paintings, sarees, dupattas, and textile-based wearable art for collectors and art lovers across India and internationally.
